Etgar Keret has written a story about the little wonderful things in our lifes that has the power to connect us eachother and change everything we thought it is unbreakable. In the busdriver’s world are his personal rules and mindsets on first place. He believes that his judgement is the right one, at least for the goodness of all people in the bus he drives. But there is also another world. Eddie’s world – that stands quite in the opposite. When it comes to be on time somewhere he fails almost everytime. However in the life aren’t important things that make us different that divide us but only and only the things that are trying to connect us. The things we have in common. And a bus driver and Eddie have something in common. They are good. They like people. They care. And in the moment when these two worlds were meeting it happened a miracle. And this miracle changed everything. The bus driver opened a door and Eddie was finally on time. Even if the romantic line in the story wasn’t finished as we could expected, it is beautiful story and I personally think this line is secondary, important for the story, no doubt, but still secondary.
What a beautiful comment Petra! You’re 100% right, we all do what we think is the best for all of us, but if we pay more attention to the people around us and their needs, a miracle can happen.
The story about a bus driver, who has a specific ideology to his job. This ideology is based on he would never wait for delayted person, even if would be a micro delay. Otherwise, he wasn’t mean but he was very strict to ride on time. He just loved his job.
The story is about a bus driver, who never wait for anyone. He wasn´t mean, but he use a simple aritmetic and has the principles. The principle, that his bus couldn´t be late, because of one late person.
How did me like the story? I liked the story:The bus driver who wanted to be god – Etgar Keret a lot because:
Different angles of views on the attitude of a person in means of transport are beautifully described.
A person can find himself inside the bus and reacts to latecomers by shouting and grumbling.
A tight-knit person who runs beside the bus and stares longingly at it,
he bangs on the door and wants to get in, but the driver won’t open it for him. Sometimes he runs behind the bus and signals to the driver to stop the bus, but he does not know the reason why the driver does not stop.
The driver also knows that most of them think he is just an SOB.
But sometimes a young person with poor health comes to the bus and perhaps expects great happiness – in life (Eddie and a date at the Dolphinarium) and the driver forgets about ideology (the good of society) and the arithmetic mean and breaks the established rules thanks to a good person – he changes his attitude. (take a new stand on opening door to bus )
This story, which I read today is about a driver a bus, which had was the only reason why he’d never open the door his the bus for people who were late.It was a matter of ideology.
The delay caused by opening the door for high schoolers, tight people in windbreakers, or little old ladies with brown paper bags who arrived late would mean the loss of fifteen minutes of life for the latecomer would be fairer than the loss of thirty seconds lost every passenger on the bus. Together they’d be losing half an hour, which is double fifteen minutes let’s say sixty people inside.
He preferred society over smiles and thanks on the latecomers.
Eddy( větrný vír – pun) sorry Eddie. So Eddie he suffered the most from the ideology of the driver. Eddie was Assistant Cook at a restaurant called The Steak away and himself was a really nice guy.
While working at the restaurant, the girl at the table did agreed to meet him the next day at five at the Dolphinarium.
Eddie was sick, which caused him a lot of damage many times – this sickness always made him oversleep.
And bus driver, since Happiness of Eddie was at stake, he decided to break the rules the ideology this time. The driver opened the door his bus.
Eddie than waited for girl, on the bench for almost two hours.
In vain. She didn´t come.
Eddie was tired and he finally reached the bus stop, the bus stayed there waited for him.
Finally the driver looked in the rear-view mirror and gave Eddie a sad wink, which somehow made the whole thing almost bearable.
This story is about bus driver, who never opened the door to the people coming late. One day he made an exception and opened the door to Eddie who was in hurry on date. The bus driver drove him to the date on time, but the girl didn´t come.
This story is about a bus driver, who wanted to be a God and about a boy, who looks for love.
The driver’s ideology said that if, say, the delay that was caused by opening the door for someone who came late. The boy came late, but the bus must stop because the traffic light turned red. But the bus driver was merciful and opened the door for the boy.
The story is about the bus driver, who didn´t want to stop, when people came late. He thought, that this idea is better for society then miss the time with waiting and opening doors. But one day he made the exception. He opened the door for Eddie, who needed to catch up the bus. Eddie had meeting with the girl from the restaurant, where he worked. He arrived at the place, he waited for her, but she did not came.
This story is about a driver and a boy. The bus driver did not stop at the bus stop when people were late. The boy was going on a date and was late and the driver stopped him. But the girl did not come, so the boy went back with the driver, who was waiting for him.
The bus driver never opened the door of the bus for people who came late. But once he was merciful and open the door for a man named Eddie. Eddie thought he met a shot of Happiness but his Happiness stood him up.
Exactly, Alena. Well understood.
Okey, lets talk about the story 😀 ! There were 2 people with diftrent personalities. The first one, the bus driver never opened people who were late, like never ever. And then there were Eddie, generous person. The bus driver dicited to open him even he was late. It’s was really cute from him and nobody excepted this from him.
Great summary Johi, just take a look at the spelling for ‘different’, ‘decided’ and ‘expected’. Would you open the door for people that were late if you were the bus driver?
Thank you for checking my coment, I will take a look on my spelling. Of course I would open them 😀 (second conditional 😂).
The story is about two people with different personalities. The bus driver has his own ideology and is principled (and I understand him). But he is not mean and show that humanity is sometimes more than principle. Eddie is nice guy but unfortunately he’s looking for happiness with the wrong girl.
This story is about two persons and also about an extraordinary human mercy. One of these persons is bus driver with his strong principle and arithmetic calculation: if one from passengers is late only one minute, the thirty others together get delay 30 minut. But one day he made the exception for a young man, who catch up the bus during its stopping at traffic lights
This story is about bus driver who don’t wait for passengers whom came late and one day he change his way to thing. I think that he isn’t only one who does it.
The story is telling about two persons, a bus driver and an Assistent cook Eddie. Bus driver is very principle and he never open the door for people, who are late. He makes one exception, for Eddie, because he is merciful as a God. He waits for Eddie, but it doesn’t bring happiness to Eddie anyway. Eddie should meet a girl, called Happiness, but she didn’t come, she has a boyfriend.
The story is about a bus driver. He had his principle, which he followed. As soon as he left the bus stop, he didn’t stop anyone. No one who ran late. He once made an exception for a man named Eddie. Eddie lived through his story. He had a date with a girl he met at the restaurant where he worked. The bus driver took him to the meeting place on time but the girl did not arrive.
