hello, I don’t understand such easy sentence from exercise 3/4. I filled in future tense:
… plane will leave next Wednesday morning….. and is it present simple?
Hi! I don’t understand why is “have lived” the correct choose at 4. sentence, 4. exercise. What does it specifically imply? I have a feeling we have already spoken about it, but I am obviously lost again. Why not “i have been living” or “i am living”, it depends on circumstances.
Thank you!
Hi Petra, in the sentence, it isn’t very what the circumstances are, and you’re right, it depends completely on the circumstances. “I have been living” would also be 100% correct and show that the duration of the action is important. “I am living” is also correct and shows that while you are living in Prague, it’s probably temporary and not permanent.
This exercise is just to practice choosing between the Present Perfect Simple and Past simple tense. Even in this exercise, both answers are possible, but using the present perfect tense means that you are still living in Prague, whereas the past simple tense would mean that you lived in Prague in the past but don’t anymore.
I hope this helps!
And I will just add the if you want to speak about HOW LONG, you either need a present perfect simple (I have lived) for something permanent or present perfect continuous (I have been living) for something temporary. It is NOT possible to say I am living here for 3 years. You can say I lived there for 3 years but you don NOT live there any longer.
